To anybody in the Arkansas area, or surrounding states:
My LFS has a 1-2 foot bumblebee grouper (Epinephelus lanceolatus). The poor thing's stuck in what looks like a 30-40 gallon tank. He can turn around, and he can swim 2-3 body lengths, but it's bad. The guy came into the LFS when his owner couldn't care for him anymore (the idiot

), so he dropped him off at the store. I can't take care of him, as much as I want to, but I know that there's hopefully somebody out there who can. The person I talked to said she'd be willing to give him away to a good home, because frankly, the poor guy needs it. In the wild (Australia), groupers like him get to at least 8 feet, and over 800 pounds. He's still a juvie, showing adolescent coloration, but he's starting to show signs of stunting (overly large head, sunken in body behind the head). My heart really goes out to him since he's been there for the past year at least. So, my question is two-fold. 1) What is required to care for a bumblebee grouper throughout it's natural lifespan. 2) Is anybody willing to care for this poor lil guy? I don't know the legality of keeping him in your state, but I'm pretty positive he's legal.
This isn't an ad for me to personally give him away (and therefore doesn't belong in the sales forums). This is me asking anybody if they can care for the fish, and if they'd be willing to get the fish.

Maybe you could do a nice indoor pond? If i was living over in Oklahoma already (next year) i'd get him.

I hope he lasts long enough for you to get all situated in OK and come pick him up...heck, if I wasn't going to college this fall, I'd grab him and hold him for you just to give him a bigger tank (72 gallon vat...not much, but enough room for him to turn around and swim a few body lengths).

Which brings me back to the main points: anybody out there besides Troy willing to care for this guy? Care tips as well?

If I could take him I would but I can't.
I hope someone doesn't purchase him and put him in a small tank out of pity. I would rather have one fish suffer than the encouraged sale of many more.

Wes on here (RareFish/FuguPuff) has had them, they need salt to thrive/longevity. Other than that, i guess treat like any other carnivorous fish. Lots of space, meaty diet. Bet they'd be very personable.

Hm...the one at the LFS is in full salt, which makes it even more problematic... fugupuff fugupuff , R rarefish , would it be possible to get some advice please?

Hey Ichthyogeek we should both buy one when i move over and share experiences with them :P
