I know this might not be the right forum, but i think i will get more than sufficient answers. I am curious for some tips on shipping live fish in this cold weather (live in ohio). I would just do the following but am not sure if it is correct, I have never shipped before....

Get a large styro and 2 plastic bags along with a medium size (dependin on fish size) rubbermaid plastic container. I would slice the container with holes so water and flow through it and not trap air inside to put the fish in there. Then i would put the container in the first plastic bag after filling it with water from the tank the fish came from. Add the other bag with it and place several heating pads throughout the box. Then put the styro in a bigger cardboard box for shipping overnight. Will this allow the fish to stay alive through the night? Please let me know, any info/tips are appreciated.
Thanks,
Jon

1. Make sure you use good heatpacks(longer than 24 hours, might be able to find 72 hour ones)

2. If you have a lfs near you ask them if they have any styrofoam lined boxes that they receive fish in. Usually if you have a nice lfs they'll give one to you, should be able to get them to give you some bags too.

3. Look for something called "bag buddies" They're little tablets that reduce stress/ammonia and help create oxygen.

4. Don't blow into the bag before sealing it, either have an fresh oxygen source to fill it or just grasp and close trapping air inside.

I'm sure there's more but this is a little of it. I have never used the rubbermaid plastic container and most don't unless it's something like piranhas but it's a good idea if you can do it as alot of cichlids fins will puncture bags.

Also what are you shipping ?

black piranhas....haha thats why im doin the rubbermaid idea.

thanks for your ideas
