Ok, at work the janitor (who speaks spanish and some english) asked me if I could translate a "small" book for him. I can translate. My writing in spanish is decent. However I don't know what to charge! I haven't seen the book but about how many cents per word? Then again, I wont be able to count the words. What about a certain amount per 100 pages??? HELP!! I'm going to see him tomorrow.

Keep in mind this is a sidejob.. nothing related to my work :nilly:

25 cents a page would be alright. But i don't know how much the cat makes.

i wouldn't charge too much since it is in spanish and it would be easy for him to find other options. I think 25 cents a page is fair. its really up to you though. you're taking the time to do it.... its a lot of work really

go to his house at night and read it to him when he is trying to sleep. all for free

I was thinking .50c a page?

Also I think I'm going to start a grammar/translation freelance gig. I majored in English so sounds like I can make extra $$.

How does 3c per word for grammar corrections and 5c per word translations? :D I mean hey if I can make a buck of strangers why not? If they're willing to pay. I'm willing to do this really cheap for the guy because its at work and I don't want things to turn sour if I have to see him all the time. But whaddyathink LOL

Let me just add that normal rates for translations/writing goes from 3-10c. So If I do 3c its cheap, no? And translations from English to Spanish require me to use accents and such.

all i'm saying is that spanish is probably the most widely used language other than english in this part of the world so it wouldn't be tough to find someone else to translate that

Be careful not to get caught working a private job on the job...i would think twice about the risks..
