Hello!

I have bought 4 geophagus , 3 – 4 inches long. They were labeled G. surinamensis but I don’t think…., I am not convinced they are surinamensis.

Some pics (pardon the quality). What do you think?

Someone should make a sticky about G. surinamensis vs. G. altifrons because it's easily the most common Geo ID question on MFK.

Your location is Lima, peru.....you must b pretty close to most collection points???

And those are Altifrons.....true surinamensis are hard to come by due to the militia unrest in that area....I read this on internet...could or could not be true....

Then are Geophagus altifrons,Thanks to all. They came from a import from Thailand. Sorry for my bad English

I have never seen where I live (Lima-Peru) Geophagus, but they must have in the Peruvian jungle. I have read the book Kullander, Cichlid fishes of the Amazon river drainage of Peru, 1986, where they are mentioned that they live in my country the specie Geophagus proximus in the Ucayali river.
