I'm concerned about the outer edges of the silicon seams on a glass tank (The center thick part is intact) but the flared out thin parts have been scaped buy the last owner removing calcium deposits.

Can I just put another coating of silicon over top the seal? I know some would say to trim out ALL the silicon. But it's just the flared edges that appear to be cut up.I included the worst area on the tank. The cuts are in the thin area where the silicon was flared out. But do you guys feel this is a unsafe tank if I were to just apply a coating overtop of the existing coating?

Or do I need to haul this thing out and have a pro re-do all the seams?

FYI it's a 180 (72 x 24 x 24)

Looks like the previous owner just cut off the loose, thin, flared out part that wasn't sticking to the glass anyways. I wouldn't worry about it.

If you do decide to re due the silicone on it. No, you can not add on top of the existing silicone...it will not work, silicone doesn't stick to silicone. You would have to remove all the silicone first, and re due it all.

You wouldn't really have to have a pro do it, if you have the time yourself..it's not all that hard to do.
