Help! Glass thermometer broke, mercury?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i think it's fine....they dont use murcury anymore. i use digital thermometers on all my tank if you need any i have a few brand new ones for sale!

my friend had this happen and just mixed it into the sand haha. be careful getting cut though i would try netting out as much as possible

The small balls are proabaly lead weights. Was the actual liquid in the thermometer red or silver? If it's red it is not a mercury thermometer, if it was silver, than it was probably very old and was mercury and your fish will get the mad hatters disease ;)

I you have a magnetic algae cleaner use one of them and scan the bottom of the tank for the lead balls to pick them up.

lead isnt magnetic though?

phew.. glad to hear some good news! Just noticed my thermometer was broken this morning.

Netted out the sand that was near the thermometer.. Hope i got most the glass out!
