hi ive never had a problem till recently with my 150 gallon tank but some of my fish have been dying recently and i was wondering if i could get some help:

my 150 gallon has about 6 x large pieces of driftwood with about 10 largge amazon swords rooted in. id say just looking at it, about 80% of the tank is coverred with plants and driftwood.

i recently put some moon sand in there too.

as for fish i have about 20 balloon red eye tetras, 2 large angelfish, 6 large siamese algae eaters, 3 roseline sharks, 1 snowball pleco. about 10-15 albino bushy nose.

first, teh albino plecos have been slowly dying off one by one,...i see some of them sitting on the ground of the tank in the morning and by the evening the other plecos are munching on them.

i could only think of a couple possibilities but would appreciate your opinion or help on this matter and any solution:

1) too many plants? are the plants becoming too toxic for the fish? (although the roselines, siamese, and angels seem to be doing ok)

2) too many fish? the fish are creating too much waste and killing off the other fish? but why are only the plecos affected?

3) water quality?

please please help asap. i bought some PRIME water conditioner and have been adding the appropriate amounts of it to "clean" the water but thast about it. im runnning and fx5 and a powerhead for water circulation. no idea what else could be wrong. thanks

also...this may be obvious...but are you feeding the pleco's??? THere will not be enough algae for all of those fish without ample food being fed to the plec's. I have seen a lot of people think that pleco's eat the algae in your tank and do not need to be fed other than that. They usually will starve.

EXACTLY MY FIRST QUESTION

did you take out the substrate in there before adding the moon sand?

if you have to ask this question it probably the culprit.
