I'm trying to start a Discus tank and wouldn't ya know, I go to PetCo and some guy dropped off a 5in Discus that is black as night. He also dropped off a Leaf Fish and two Puffers. What do I do??? I wasn't ready for the Discus. I was about to order from Great Lakes when this happened. I can't let this guy die... the store gave him to me for free. I have a 10 gallon quar tank and an RO/DI filter. Somebody better help or this Discus is dead! Can I even save him????

If he is black he is probably really stressed out. How long has he been at the store? You don't want to change the water that he's been in too many times quickly. Your RO water is probably much better than he is used to and might shock him further.
He was at the store for about a day. I got him home, put him in the 10gal that was all water from the 56gal he'll be in if he survives, added salt, turned off lights and floated 2 fake plants. His color is better today. But, it seems like your telling me NOT to make his conditions too good too quickly. Right? I was going to change two gallons tonight with RO/DI water. From the look of things he seems to be a Hekels(spelling?).
