hi what is the best method to get them to eat? just got mine @12" its been 4 days and not interested in eating anything...

any help will be greatly appreciated.

Sometimes it takes a few days for them to get comfortable/hungry enough to eat. Don't get too worried as they can go a few weeks without eating. Stay away from live feeders as they are not healthy. Crickets will work but then it will be harder to get it to accept proper foods. I would take this opportunity to get him eating pellets, so offer no other foods until it eats pellets. Once it is on pellets you can check out the feeding sticky for good information regarding a wide variety of foods for your aro.

people always say garlic wud do the trick. how is that possible?

hei thanks for the quick reply, the previous owner told me that he eats hikari food stick, but i'll give him a few more days before starting to get more worried.
and also with the garlic trick, what do you do with it?

Basically, you can get kent's extreme garlic or seachem garlic guard. it's like a garlic extract you pour in your water and it supposedly makes your fish crazy hungry. Never tested this myself, so i have no testimony. Either way, I'd recommend exactly what Bderick said. Leave it be for a few more days, at 12", that should be no problem at all. Just keep your lights off, keep your water clean, and eventually it will eat. Remember, no feeders.

if your water is colder than the usual because of sudden whether change, it causes arowanas to lose their appetite.

good news guys, last night he finally ate some food sticks. is it bad to keep feeding him till he cant eat no more?
the prev. owner told me to give him 10 sticks a day only, but looking at his size, theres no way that he will be satisfied with only 10 sticks a day
thanks

Feed him as much as he can eat. 10 sticks a day might of been okay a few months ago but they grow fast! I feed my black at least twice a day. There are some days he wont take anything so I put the food in slowly. I hate to over feed, the food will rot and hurt the water quality......
