First thought was johanna, but its got a caudual ocelli. Can you get a better side shot? Its possible its a sp. 'venezuela'...but the coloring of the fins doesn't seem right.

I agree peanut. I don't think it's a "venezuela", no yellow on mine, or my johanna for that matter. I also thought johanna, but once again, yellow? It might also be harder to recognize due to a "washed out" coloration from the light colored substrate. We need a couple more pics, maybe a couple different angles...
Definitely crenicichla johanna. I think the color on him/her just looks a little washed out because of your light colored substrate. Here's a pic of mine kept in a tank with black gravel...
Gonna have to say its Crenicichla sp. 'venezuela'. I've never seen a johanna that has a tail ocelli...so that kinda rules them out. That is an AWESOME Satanoperca daemon though! CRAZY KEWL!
hmmm thats what someone else said too. that theyve never seen a Johanna with the ocelli. hmmm, so the fact that this pike is being ID'd as a 'sp. Venezuela' pretty much puts it into a broad category of many different kinds of pikes strictly from Venezuela correct? so no specifics on an actual scientific name or anything....?
