so i woke up today to see that my rainbow cichlid tank has ick. the worst one would be my royal pleco. i put some ick cure in there and am bumping up my temps hourly. is there anything else i can do to help?

When the spots are on the fish they are immune to treatment. But when you turn up the temp it speeds the ich life cycle, there are 2 stages it can be killed. When young ich erupt from the spots, and when eggs hatch in the gravel and start looking for a host. 3ppt or higher(parts per thousand) salt destroys the 2 vulnerable stages. This is why it takes a couple weeks to control ich. Lower than 3ppt is not enough. Add salt gradually, keep temp up, and vacuum the substrate replacing water with salted water. Don't think because you don't see spots on the fish it is over, keep the treatment up for 2-3 weeks.

Turn temp to 86 degree, no more than 2 degrees up an hour. Add 1 tbsp of salt per 5 gallons.

thanks for the help everyone.. should i continue the liquid ick cure or doesn't that stuff work?

i did a partial water change just vacuumed out the gravel. i then followed a thread on here about adding salt for ick cure. i am also gradually bumping up my temps to 86

duanes how ofter should i add salt a and vacuum my gravel in that 2 to 3 week period. and will keeping the temps up that high for that long harm my fish?

when i had a ich problem a while back i bumped up the temp did 25% every two days adding table salt..cleared up in no time..

since you already have it and started using it i would recommend you keep up the treatment according to the instructions for the medicationl

Agreed, but in the future keep in mind that to treat ich all you need is some salt and to bump up the temp.
