I have 2 Pacu and they have this white coating over their eyes. The one pacu looks sick and his color is very pale. They other pacu has one eye that has this white coating over it and that pacu has pretty good color. What is this? Is this a bacterial infection or a parasite disease. They started with this last night and it really got bad today. I am starting with a water change and then I have to treat them with some medicine, but I need to know what this is so I can treat them. Please help, anybody.

don't treat without knowing what it is. good thing with the waterchange, cloudy eyes normally mean that you aren't keeping on top of your wcs. i'd say do a 50% wc turn off the lights and see what happens - if their eyes are clearer the next day then thats probably it. colour going paler could be stress. post this in the disease forum thingy.

I would check ammonia, nitrite, nitrate. I agree that cloudy eyes are usually caused by poor water quality. What size tank are these fish in, and what type of filtration do you have? Poor water quality is caused by inappropriate volume for the fishes kept, over feeding, over or under-cleaning, etc... there are a lot of causes, but it should be fairly easy to rule out any or all of these. Also, with fish that eat a lot, and thus, poop a lot, it's a good idea to test at least weekly. This becomes even more important in overstocked tanks. The more risks you take in terms of stocking vs. volume, the more careful you have to be.

what size tank, what are the water parameters, tankmates. any new changes lately in diet, or conditioners?

you should have the mods move this to the illness section for better results.

Thanks everybody. I already figured out my problem. Thanks so much. I have to change my water a lot more because they are getting larger and I am going to move them into a larger tank. Thanks again everybody. My ammonia levels are very high and that is the problem.
