Pleas help I have a 75 gal malawi fr/juvi tank fish started swiming irratic smashing into the side of the tank dying off like crazy they looked like they were being electricuted symptoms are red around the gills not eating geting very skitish when i aproach the tank they start swimming all crazy and seem to pass out i will think one more is dead they will be on their side at the bottom or stuck in a plant and then just come out of it or die right then

water peramiters are fine tank has been established for over 6 months I raised the water temp and started treating with API general cure for 2 days now i have lost about 40-50 juvies now looks like the main adult tank is getting it please help

I would have said ammonia issues due to the red around the gills...have you verified the water test results just to be sure?

Are you keeping up with regular water changes?

it cant be Ammonia or water issues it is affecting two different tanks I did a water change right away about 30% now I am following API General cure directions dose two days and water change 48 hrs I will be doing water change today. juvi tank seem to be doing better i have about 15 left they are eating now but the adult tank 125 gal some are still hiding and a few of them have symptoms and are not eating but some are showing no symptoms at all and are fine i am baffled still dont know what is affecting them i just started treating for internal parasite on a guess

if you have ammonia problems, 30% isn't doing much help a all - you should be doing 70-80%.

Test and post water parameters, it sounds like ammonia burns/poisoning 100% by what you are describing.

You may want to seriously reconsider diagnosis

From the red gills I'd say ammonia, too.

There's also a chance there has been a change in the water quality from the tap.

ok i will re-tes water and also test tap. is there a chance that i am getting a false reading from the test strips?

I did not know this apparently the guy at the pet store that recommended them to me doesn't either. Ok so I get the kit with the drops will do this on my way home from work today I will post the reading. Thank You!

Most fish places will test your water for you, so you might wanna nip home first, get them to test it when you buy the kit. That way you'll have a second opinion.

while you are trying to figure this all out, you could be doing an 80% water change which will likely solve the problem temporarily or if you do them 1-2X per week, might be a permanent solution. How often do you do water changes?
