you may remember my fiance brought home a jag from petsmart. well, she said none of the fish there have been sick at all, not even clown loaches they've had for a month and now my fish have white spots on their bodies - which looks like ich. (the number of spots has increased since yesterday) these spots appear more raised and much smaller than ich spots. like half the size.

but the spots seemed a little small to be ich. but not this tiny 'dusting' i hear about with velvet. but some of the fish have a 'gold sheen' on them - and also little white spots. SERIOUSLY WHAT THE **** . what do i do? i will post pics tonight. so far i've done a 50% water change, shut off the lights, turned the heat up (gradually increasing to 84) added salt - (gradually increasing to 1 TBSP/5 Gal) and was considering a formalin course. the thing is, i am worried about my clown loaches. i know how sensitive they are. i am so freaked. i really love my fish. i would be absolutely heartbroken if i lost them.

help me out!!!!!!!!!!!! FUUCCCCCCCCCKKKKK. sorry.

If all else fails, try using quick cure. I've used it with loaches/scaleless fish and they didnt die, but it says not to. So its basically a last option. You seem to know how to treat though, water changes and high temp to not risk infection.

it's definitely velvet, not ich. i thought ich mainly because the loaches had multiple white spots. i guess those are pustules. anyway, i've increased the salt to 1tsp/gallon and added a 3/4 dose of quick cure. its in all four of my tanks. i had a common syringe for drawing water for testing, i've since purchased 10 more syringes, 4 for water testing, 4 for dosing meds, and 2 extras JIC. i really love all my fish, but i am mostly concerned about my eartheaters and loaches. and my beautiful rotkiel sev. how do sevs and geos fair with velvet?

ALSO - i've heard it's very hard to cure. is this true? the LFS guy said it would only take a week to 10 days. i've heard otherwise. and i've also heard leaving the lights OFF will help because oodinium is chlorophyll based? (but i thought it was a dinoflagellate?)
