So recently I got a hold of this little Convict from my LFS, however after I brought him home I noticed all the bright red coloration in his fins. I used to keep many convicts before in the past and don't ever remember any of them having that kind of coloration, or even the body shape that this one has. Obviously its a hybrid, but of what I have no clue.

Convicts have crossbred so much that there's no way to tell unless you're getting it from a reputable breeder/vendor. I do recall seeing this con with a red tail. It's the same species as the con just a different collection point.

could have a bit t-bar (sajica) in it...

That looks like a normal con, I'd agree it might because collection point thing. It doesn't show any other differences then the red tail

I was under the assumption that it was a hybrid because of the coloration. I've had 50+ convicts over the years and I've never had a single one that looks anything like this one. But you do bring up a good point. It could just be a collection point.

My male looks very similar. Noticed some wide variations in his color. His body gets very gold at times, his fins go from a very pale red to darker more pronounced red. I picked him up at Petsmart a few months ago.

It's either a Honduran red point, or an HRP X con. Google HRP's, the mystery will be solved, I promise.

+1 with it being a HRP x reg convict. I just got rid of most of the ones i had and many looked just like that. Usually pure HRP have a good amount of blue in the body besides the red in the tail.

My "normal" convict has the red in his tail, but this thread has me questioning his genetics now, I'd assumed he was pure convict.

So I looked up the HRP Convict hybrids on google and I do believe we have a match. Second image that showed up was a splitting image of my Convict.
