Hi, Ive just joined this forum after obtaining what I thought was a setup Malawi tank [tank, fish water, the whole lot], it turns out theres a few tang's and possibly a victoria or two?? im trying to lower the numbers and keep to one 'lake brand' so many of them will eventually be up for sale but im trying to work out what a few of them are before making and decisions...[i orig had plans for oscars as have had them for years but weve all kinda fallen for the variety of fish available when not dropping an oscar into a tank.]

so, Heres the first, also the largest one at approx 10-12inch's? give or take an inch??.., [and I suspect the first I want out as its a menace, beating on the frontosa...]

Ive been doing some searching and have been drawn towards Fossochromis Roasratus [I have no idea of a common name?] but it seems quite colourful? Can anyone confirm, or assist here?

either way, There are plenty more to come. :)

They have no common name, but some people refer to them as "Fossos"

I also found this online that I found interesting about them, "Provide a soft substrate such as fine gravel or sand as this fish can be damaged by it's tendency to quickly dive into the substrate when scared."

its the one doing the scaring... the substrate is currently sand and pebble/stones/rocks mixed together, once the numbers in the tank start dropping it will be overhauled entirely, most fish will preffer sand, easyer to spit out, or as you rightly noted, 'crash into'...

ok, so there are a few more im having some trouble with [although tha last one didnt seem to tricky. however after a couple of days at staring at fish you can never trust your own eyes to be telling the truth sometimes]

this one is placid in comparison to the last and almost half the size @ about 6-7 inches.

I have not been able to find anything yet that im convinced it looks like?

there is however another fish in the tank which 'may' be of the same variety? the one thats 3rd along from left to right, [not y-lab, or the one next to that, and not the dark one on the right]
Im not sure though, similar;

as you can see, they are all distracted by my curtains!!

Any ideas? im not getting anywhere with this one?

Thanks guys, thats awesome, as soon as I googled Sunburst peacock I saw my fish :) thanks again, Im at work at the mo but will upload some more a bit later on.

[I noticed the ID requests get closed after the ID has been done [soo many thanks there]
I will keep adding to this unless someone advises me its 'Against the rules of the forum' and I will happily setup a new one for each fish...???]

ok, I have managed to get some more shots, heres a cool guy, relitively fast, not too agressive with the others, his bands are quite striking i think, there is almost some blue also, kinda,more like a sheen, it came out a bit in one of the shots below, he's about 7-8inches long.

anyone have any ideas, its the same shape as some blue ones I have also, the last pic is the blue one, it looks like what I picture as a default malawi! not sure of the name though, anyone have any ideas on the yellow guy mainly, but the blue guy also...
