Help id my amphilophus?

View attachment 742337 hey all, are there different types of red head midas? my male is around 8 inches and seems alot slimmer than i expected him to get? Theres alot of pics on here of really rotund 5 inchers with nice humps? hence im starting to think hes not your normal barred midas? still great little fish but wanted him to be as impressive as my old cintrinellus i lost...

after lots of googling in thinking maybe amphilophus flaveolus.... i didnt realise how many types there were, most very similar and im sure a lot of the pics on gooogle are prob lable'd wrong lol!

if you didnt get it from a reputable dealer or can trace the lineage of the fish. there is no way of knowing from looking at a barred midas type fish. in all reality its probably a hybrid amphilophus of some sort. i would stick to calling it a barred midas

considering how rare anything other than a barred cintrinelus is in the uk im thinking he/she is one... seems to be filling out a bit of late!

looks just like my barred midas apart from yours has red eyes and mine is yellow, how long have you had him/her.

mine is 7" and isn't showing any sign of a hump, mind you he's only been in my tank for a couple of days so hopefully he will get one.

mine is a f1 black barred midas from oddball express, i hope he grows a hump i think they look much better like that.
