First things first .. Details.

Last night I picked up my 4x new "Channa - Blue bleheri snakehead" as quoted by Canadian Aquatics which is the supplier that sent them to me. I am trying to confirm that they are indeed Channa Bleheri and not another species of Channa.

When they arrived they were all alive and kicking but I found the water had lots of small blue flakes of some sort in it. I'm not sure if this is something that Canadian Aquatics added to the water intentionally for the health of the fish or not.. I'm waiting for a response from them about this. All four were triple bagged seperatly.

After following the correct procedures I moved the channa into my tank and they all seemed to be healthy and swimming.interacting fine (few minor fights but they are snakeheads ..). The smallest is about 3" and the biggest is about 4 1/2" (on a side note my 1 1/2" clown loach made it through the night with them! .. fingers crossed)

Alright.. enough details, time for the pictures. I'm concerned because each channa looks VERY different. The smallest channa I will post first .. he is more of a dark color with the normal hints of blue on his belly and under his gills etc but its not virbant yet and his base color looks almost green/black. This is only the smallest channa though. The two biggest channa are a more pale/white color with no sign at all of blue in them. One has many dark stripes going through him, the other is just plain pale/white color. The fourth channa I haven't seen yet inside the tank because I added a fair amount of new sand the day before I picked them up and still waiting for the last bit to settle but he hasn't come out from hiding somewhere in the cloudiness yet for me to see him or get a picture. Here are the pictures..

One last note .. I attempted to feed them the pellets this morning that CA gave me free in the box that they have been feeding them. There was no sign of them eating any of the pellets so I removed them from the water.

Oh .. and one thing I forgot to mention. This fish tank is in my room so I get woken up everytime the snakeheads try to jump and hit my canopy .. Last night I heard probably 5 or 6 big bangs through out the night of someone trying to jump. today from looking at the fish I think it was mostly from the "almost all white" snakehead as he seems to have a bit of a mark under his bottom lip this morning that I didn't notice last night. Anyway to get these guys to stop jumping and waking me up or is that something I have to get used to?

Hi....

Yours are Channa gachua.......be happy with them,as long they will last......because if your tank is not covered completly......every single hole......you will lose them during the time!

NEVER keep snakeheads without a cover!

Thanks! anyone else agree with this, that they are indeed guacha and not bleheri or assam?

Also my tank is covered quite well at the moment but I plan on covereing even better when my new impeller comes in for my canister. then I will be removing my aquaclear HOB and cover it up better!

Also, are you positive they are all guacha? even the first pictures with the green/blue snakehead?

hmmm .. looks like they migh tbe a bit stressed, give them a day or two and post some more pics.. Some look like Bleheri, while others do ressemble Gachua.

Thanks, They may be a bit stressed yes, they had a full day cross country flight then got here and was late so the light was off all night. these pictures were taken about 5 minutes after the light was turned on for the first time. I got home not long ago today from work and they still look pretty similar to the pictures but I will give them some more time and see how they turn out.

try some floating plants might help them settle and relieve some stress.

thats my next mission. I'm going to michaels tomorrow to pick up some silk floating plants if i can find some that will float. hoping they will feel more comfortable with it. The channa in the fourth picture with the dark lines showed some signs of blue on his belly and under his gills when he came out today.

I totally agree with Pascal.
I see pelvic fins in your pictures.
Bleheri do not have these.
Also matos Bleheri have orange spots in the caudal, not blue streaks.

Here are some of my 100% Channa Bleheri to compare:
