Got these from a local store when I was picking up some fish. They had them floating on several tanks and they threw them in the bag with the fish I got. Any idea what they are and whether or not the need to be rooted?

That makes sense lol. You are spot on. These are water sprite, broad leaf variation apparently. ThanksLooks like water sprite to me, can grow floating or rooted

Not a broad leaf variant, just still showing above water growth. Another month or so should be very fine leaved.
