Picked up these guys from Petsmart the other day because they were on sale and I know they weren't any of the fish they had tags for. They were sold to me as a JD and some sort of tropheus. Please excuse the crappy phone pics. Pic #1 and 2 are of same fish.

1 could be either...

unfaded Midas
Lyonsi
true festae (not mayan, tail spot is too small)

the second fish is a FH, only other fish with markings like that is a trimac, and they are pretty hard to find and never those bright irridescant colours.

Thanks for the clarification on lyonsi / Mayan - never really got into them so I haven't looked up Id techniques.

Thanks for your ideas. I was kinda thinking lyonsi or festae for #1 and FH for #2 as well. Thought it was weird to see fish like these guys at a store like that so I picked them up for $7.50. If either turns out to be anything besides what they were sold to me as and not one of the more common cichlids, I will be super happy.

I thought it was an unfaded midas, but the second picture makes it look like it has uniform red stripes along the tips of the fins, which is a trait of lyonsi. its most likely just the picture though.

well heres my juvenile salvini, doesnt really match

young male salvinis are very dark with red edging on their fins, but tehy also have the same double black line and upturned mouth shape not found in a midas cichlid
