Hello everyone new here ...always used mfk for great info but finally decided to sign up ... I have pretty much raised / grown out just about every sa/ca I can get my hands on. Well anyway I found this little guy and his smaller twin at the lfs and can't seem to ID iv never seen a juvi cichlid look like this and was hoping the experts could lend a helping hand...

Zonatus, guttulatum or species coatz.
There is a lot of confusion over these three veija and there is still no proof they are not the same fish,they may just be regional variants of the same species.To my knowledge there has been no dna tests to prove otherwise.
For a definite I'd you will need the fish to mature some more.

I was thinking veija of some sort as well just never seen a juvi look like this ...currently have a pair or syns and was hoping this guy's wasn't a hybrid ...thanks for the info ...guess I'll have to research zonatus and glutts some more lol
 
What I thought was weird is that this guy had teeth you could see at about the 2 inch mark and the only veija iv ajd that had noticeable teeth was a fen I had a while back but those weren't noticeable till 5 inch or so
