Help I'd possible fungus?

On my ornate bichir who is 12" he has identical white patches on both gill plates, they look slightly fuzzy I thought maybe it's fungus but it's weird it would be identical on both sides, I got the best pic I could he's camera shy apparently. Does anyone know of a fungus that's common to bichirs?

Not sure about fungus but do a 50% water change and add aquarium salt. Raise the temps too.
