I can't remember their name-but apparently during spawning the black body stripe becomes bright/white & the body turns dark (verses black stripe and light body).

Does anyone recognize these little guys?

That is a neet. Scientific name is Neetropus nematopus. Nice pick up! They are pretty rare around where I live. Aggressive little buggers.

Yes, very aggro sometimes. Might I inquire what all those fish with him are and what size setup you have them in?

The other fish are: nim. venustus, labidochromis caeruleus, pseudo. crabro, some "red empress", and a few astatotilapia spinosignis (flameback-not pictured) fry. They are in an over-filtered 20 gal long grow out tank. There are three HOB filters and one sponge filter.

I do 50-60% water changes 3-4 times a week.

It's also about time I took their older/larger siblings to a pet store. My 125 has become a large-fry grow out tank as well.

Cool, so you mostly keep africans I see. Well, the neets might be a bit too aggro for them IMO... but the best way to see is to try it out.

I agree "the best way to see is to try it out".

The venustus fry in with these guys are quite aggressive-cannibalistic is a more accurate description, but they are all quite small for now.

As far as aggressive fish, I've found inter-species aggression is lessened greatly when they are kept in 6' tanks (125 and 180 gal)...when spawning the Venustus male, and pseudo crabro chased off and beat up their tank mates (gold saum and each other).

My p.polleni didn't get into many scuffles until I introduced a similar sized female...that's why they're now in a 29 gal w/ a divider
