I drove around fifty miles to look at a fish a store took in as a red texas. Well it is not but is really nice.
Help Id this fish please.

Thanks, I had guessed that right away and am leaning towards Vieja regani after searching online for a few hrs now.
Certainly looks like there is kamfa blood in this fish. My vote is kamfa or a kamfa vieja mix, altho kamfas have some vieja in them from my understanding. Beautiful fish regardless!

will never know.. But he's showing Trimac green + vieja frame.. You can actually see Trimac flowers faded but still lil left

I am in western Washington. Google Vieja regani and look at the pics of older specimens many of them are this green color and even show the faded marks that look like flowers on them. We will not know for sure like you say unless one was to use it for breeding. If it is a regani then it could be either sex as both look the same physically. I left it at the store for now so do not have it in my tanks.
