Help ID this pike-characin please!

LFS first wanted $79 for this fish and it sat for a while. My brother asked him to drop the price and he called his son (who is supposedly an expert on pricing) and his son said it's rare around this time and the guy raised the price to $170.

At first I thought it was a type of gar but a gar expert on here said "It is a Boulengerella species which is a pike-characin... It is not a gar and has little to nothing in common with one." And also stated that the price was rediculous. I agree but then, I've only seen this fish at this lfs. At least where I'm at. Help!!

My LFS has them for $19.99. You are right on the genus...Im not sure of the species though.

They usually are 4-6" but the one they have now is 6-8".
