So I just picked this little guy up and im questioning what the LFS says it is. Please help me identify and tell me how big he will get, diet, so on and so forth.
Thanks for the ID Deep Blue. Very true Madding but he is in a tank by himself! No disaster pending there. Didnt know there was a specific forum for gar ID. Will have to look into that.
Ctenolucius hujeta aka Hujeta Pike Characin, Hujeta Freshwater Barracuda, Gar Characin, and Rocket Gar. In captivity they 8-12". They are shoaling fish that find saftey and comfort in numbers. Tanks should be at least 5' in length and 18" wide.
They might except floating pellets and flakes or floating chunks of white fish and inscets but usually have a taste for live fish. They won't eat off the bottom of the tank the food must float or be moving in openwater. They are skittish flighty fish that generally don't show any signs of aggression towards tankmates that won't fit in their mouths and are generally defensless from aggressors.
