Hello. I need some help identifying a certain species of Piranha that a friend of mine has. I have photos that I will attempt to attach. Please offer any suggestions that you may have. He bought it assuming that it was a rare black piranha and instead it seems to be a black diamond or just a plain miniature species of diamond piranha. We are not sure and are hoping for a professional to identify the fish to the species for us. Thank you!

looks like it could be a juvi serra sanchezi

Okay. Now my friend wants to know how much the fish is worth. Because he was told that it was a black pirahna, and he was charged $100.00 for this fish when it was 3 inches long. Now, did he get hustled? Is this fish anywhere near worth that much money? What is the difference in this fish and the Black Diamond Piranha that is supposedly a rarer fish than the black piranha that gets 2 feet in length??

The fish is also flashing slightly, it has had this blister-like growth on it's lower jaws. Supposedly nothing can be done to clear it up besides prestine water quality, which it has been in for weeks now since I started to help him. Will this condition go away soon?

Aquascape sells Sanchezi for $25 for a 3"-4" they max out at around 6"http://www.aquascapeonline.com/store/scripts/prodList.asp?idCategory=210 Black Diamond Rhom or any Diamond rhom for that
matter are pricey $100+. The blister you are referring to is called a chimple...it's very common for rhoms and and a few other Serra's to develop this, it's caused by the fish rubbing
it's mouth against the glass. Their isn't anything you can really do to get rid of it just keep up on the waterchanges and it will eventually go away...how soon? weeks? months? who knows. :)
