I have looked online and totally confused myself as to what kinds my flowerhorns are. I would really like to know, the petshop folks said "hybrid".....

Really...ok then...got my fish and left lol

ZZ Red dragons. Good idea to keep them separate with the divider, even better for growth/health if they each had their own decent sized tank. Good luck and enjoy.

Thank you for the information!
A curious thing today...my daughter called me and ask what was wrong with the dark fish...It scared me and I ask what she meant, she said he was almost the same color as my second fish (the pink one). I had no idea they would change colors so much! Is that normal? I knew they would get dark when stressed and as soon as they turned on the tv he started getting dark again.

My darkest flowerhorn keeps changing color. Everyday, several times a day and its weird. It goes from a deep rosy red and bluish with black markings to a pale pinkish rose and light bluewith and the black disappears. Is that normal?

Sorry Lisa I've personally never heard of them changing colors that frequently (everyday, several times a day). Could just be that it's more stressed than the other one.

I would normally advise to check and make sure your water parameters are good (0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, ideally less than 30 ppm nitrate; proper temp about 79-82F), but then curious the other one is not doing same.

Maybe it's even a mating/breeding thing (I've never bred FH so wouldn't know). Need a clearer picture but it looks like the darker one might be a female, looks like it has a black mark on dorsal fin, which is often a sign it's a lady FH.

Anyway just bumping this thread so maybe someone else might have a better answer or similar experience.

Thank you for your help. I do think from what I have read and seen the dark one is female, but Im still not sure lol. Here are pics of their undersides if maybe someone could say for sure
