Hi guys,

Saw these for sale at a LFS.

These may be Vieja maculicauda (Black Belt Cichlid) or, more likely, Vieja synspila.

Can you guys positively ID these fish? (Apologies for the quality of the video. It's from my phone and the lighting in the store tank wasn't very good.)

Thank you,

Also, will these be a good addition to a 190Gal tank which has a Jag (~10"+), 3 Oscars (~12"+) and 2 GTs (6" and 8")?

The tank also has a 22" Silver Aro and 2 16"-17" FL Gars and a small pleco.

I could only eye-ball the size of these Vijea. They seem to be around 5". I can grow them out in another tank before putting them with the big boys.

Thanks,

Thanks,

sounds to me like youre pushing the limits of that tank already; I wouldn't put anything else in there if it were me. But then again, I wouldn't have the aro or gars either, but thats just me. If you do end up getting them though, make sure you grow them out a bit before you put em with the big'uns--the aro might see them as a treat in a bit.

You're right, I am going to think about this Cichlid combination and read a little more about Syns.

As I have a limited number of large fish I can add to the 190 G, I am going to wait for something relatively special (in my part of the world), like a V. Argenta or some Parachromis sp. or Amphilophus festae.

The Aro and Gars are very well fed and very docile and don't bother the Cichlids. And, as they are larger, the Cichlids don't bother them either...I am not too worried about them. They have not had live food (feeders) since they were little babies.

Thank you,

look like synspilum to me but I agree that the large tank is probably already at capacity.
