Was sold as geophagus pellegrini but since they are so uncommon I'm sure its something different. It's only about 2". What do you think it is? Thanks!

Definitely a Steindachneri. Blueish color and red on the head are how you can tell.

Looks to me that it could quite well be pellegrini. how large is the fish now? May have to wait to see what it turns into when its colors pop.

The fish is maybe 2" or 2.5" TL. Hopefully it grows quickly. It already has the best personality out of all my geos.

I don't really see any red on it's head, but it does have a blueish sheen on its gill plate. There is a slight yellow tint on the belly too. I'll just wait and see what it grows up like. I'll be happy whether its a Steindachneri or a Pellegrini. How large do both geos get?

lets not forget that young pellegrini arent exactly brightly coloured. most cichlids start life off dull. and although it resembles a Steindachneri so does an adult Pellegrini. and as I´ve never seen any steindachneri´s for sale that look like that, whos to say it isnt a Pellegrini? at that size most Steindachneris are fully coloured and patterned.

I say Pellegrini. just because the two fish are closely related and the Pellegrini is rare doesnt mean it CAN´T be a pellegrini.
