Cleveland, Oh.
Recently I set up my 180g tank (in fact monday it'll be 2 wks) and I've started having problems. I've lost a total of 5 fish all bottom feeders ( 1 gold nugget pleco & 4 four-lined pims.). Here is the issue all my filters came off established tanks 2 xp3 & 1 aquael unimax pro, I also have a surface skimmer and uv sterilizer. I've checked all my water parameters ph 7.0, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, and nitrate 5.0 ppm. All of my fish were transferred from other tanks that have been up and running for about a year, except for the pims. I don't know whats going on I've started to notice a grey film on one of my bluegill and a texas cichlid so I've added more salt to the water and medication. My question or concern is before I got the 180 up and running I spray painted the back of the outside of the tank black. I mask off the tank and cleaned the inside out with plain tap water after I was done. I'm at a lose and I don't want to lose anymore fish.

de chlor the water i hope. And if you think that there is a possibility of a checmical in the water that might be killing your fish do a 50% water change everyday for a week to flush it out.

So far everything remains status quoe no deathes. All the fishes still look the same and are eating and yes I remove the chlorine from the water. Thankfor the idea flushing out my tank for a week I will try that and see what happens. Also i just realized I posted in the wrong thead sorry. Anyone else have any suggestions?

What did the lost fish look like at time of notice?

And I missed it somewhere but what are all the mates and sizes of mates?

Temperature of tank?

Meds used?

Used meds before or after deaths started to occur?

were the filters remain submerged in tank water during the move ? All filter media must constantly be wet to keep all bio bacteria alive.

I'd get another test kit to test for your ammonia again, your tank may have gone to a mini cycle...

First, all filters are canisters and I just disconnected them from a 75g and a 26g. I tore down my 26g and I dumped in the gravel and water in the 180g. Previous to that i filled up the 180g added seachem prime to the water and used hydor koralia 1200gph pump to circulate the water for 24hrs. before I disconnected all the filters and took apart the 26g.
Tongue33: What did the lost fish look like at time of notice?
I noticed first the barbels on catfish started to curl then a gray film and it finally ended with bld streaks in the fins at the time of death. On the other fish just a gray film or over the eyes.
And I missed it somewhere but what are all the mates and sizes of mates? texas cichlids x2 9-10", 1 jag 7", 2 gold saum 4-3", 3 bluegill4-5" the four lines were about 4".
Temperature of tank? 78-79 Meds used? aquari-sol I started to use it when I noticed the film appearing. Well I just got home from work and the remaining fish still have an appetite and the eyes are starting to clear up a bit YEA! I hope this helps, so you guys can help me.
