I purchased a 55 gal fresh water tank and now I'm hooked.
Now I'm going to build me a 300 gallon glass tank.
I need information, will some one tell me the thickness of the glass I will need all
the way around including the bottom. Is it true that all that is holding the glass
is silicon.I have seen many instructions and it looks real simple.
So will some please give me the thickness. When I start I will post my every
move.

Yeah, you've posted in the photo lounge.....In the meantime check out some of the threads in the DIY Tanks section for possible ideas.

TBH building a 300g tank as your first tank may not be a great idea, thats a lot of water on the floor if you get it wrong! If you're trying to save money I'd suggest looking on sites like ebay or craigslist and see what you can pick up used, if you want to challenge of DIY then maybe star out smaller?

ill bite...

on 6 x 3 x 3, 17mm glass this will weigh about 312kg (glass only) the tank will need bracing along the top. google euro brace

you will need aquarium safe sillicone, white spirit, glass handling gloves, glass carrying suction cups, wet n dry and paper, sharpies, spirit level, electrical tape, set square, ruler, tape measure, caulking tool, about .5km 3 x 6 timber and 400screws, pvc cement, pvc waste pipe, drill bits, screw driver bits, counter sink, power drill, a power saw of some kind, sanding machine, wood sealent, glass drill
sheet materials to make a cover for the base or canopy.
a bloody good plan
a flat floor (that can handle 1700kg's)
a good work buddy
a pump that can handle at least 1500gallons per hour or filter system
a heater that can handle the requirements
and a bulging wallet!

putting a tank together is not easy. id try it on a small tank first

good luck and ill help if i can
