I am trying to identify one of the cichlids I bought from a a breeder in
Homestead FL. I know he told me the name but I have forgotten it.

I have looked in every book I have and still cannot find it.

any help would be appreciated it.

It is the one with the sort of mottled spots.

thanks in advance

Garry

Nimbochromis venustus.= (generally known as the 'venustus' but sometimes called the'giraffe cichlid' due to the pattern).

These get fairly large (10" or so). Males develop blue heads and when dominant lose the blotched pattern.

Thanks a bunch, I am looking at some photos of adults now and I can see why I didn't recognize them. The coloration really makes a huge change.

again, thanks a lot.
