I have an aquarium with an internal filter with only a sponge in it. The aquarium has over the chart Nitrite after I had some fish in it and died. Should I move some bio media filter from another good aquarium to remove all nitrites? Would the nitrites be eliminated if I do this or should I drain the aquarium and start over again?

Thank you

Ok I am still cycling but if I use some filter from an established aquarium will the nitrite be gone for good?

when the cycle is complete you should have 0 ammonia and 0 nitrites, and lots of nitrates. if you use filter from an established aquarium you still have to wait for the bacteria to convert the nitrites into nitrate. its all a waiting game in the end.

about the 0 nitrite and 0 ammonia I know but I was wondering if I put some bio filter from an established aquarium will it help by removing the nitrites or will it remain the same?

if you're asking if it will do something, yes it will, but it wont happen instantly, might even take the same amount of time if you had just let it cycle anyways.

i agree,i would use some of the media in the filter, buy a cheap fish to help complete the cycle with his waste.maybe test it every few days, see that nitrite is going down

I add media from another tank.

Is this the 29 gallon you said you had 15 3" discus in? If so please don't put any more discus in it, because like I said in your other thread it's too small for even one.
