I have a cheap skimmer that is designed to sit inside the tank and has an airstone that airates the water and brings the nasty stuff up to the top in the form of bubbles (im sure you all know what im talking about). The twist is its in a brackish tank. Anyways like i said its a cheap simple one that had been returned and i got for $19 (original price was $60 but box was damaged) it says it will work for up to a 60 gallon (its only in a 30). I got a 10 gal rated airpump that pumps enough bubbles to overflow the skimmer with the valve full open. My problem is that the darn thing will never stay set right. Its always either not making enough foam to do anything or its over flowing the skimmer and just dumping everything back in the tank! Ive been messing with it for two weeks now but nothing seems to work. I know its not made for brackish but when ive got it right the stuff that collects had a brown hue so i know its working it just wont stay working!

Please help thanks

come on guys i know many of you have skimmers. I need some help because as we speak the skimmer is overflowing even tho last night it was barely foaming with the same settings!

Help please
Much appreciated

I think you're biggest problem is that it's a just a crappy filter.

Skimmers aren't made for brackish anyway and when they're run on a brackish tank they require constant readjustment. A poor skimmer on an actual marine tank requires constant adjustment for that matter.

I dunno, I don't know much about that type of skimmer, sorry . Maybe you should try posting in the SW section.

Not sure if there's much you can do since on a brackish tank it won't work correctly or efficiently and that may actually be the cause of your problem.
