So I've lost a few fish already and it seems to keep hitting one or two fish at a time. I thought I was in the clear but now I woke up today and my needle nose gar has the spots on his beak. I already started a treatment two days ago using a product called National Geographic™ Herbal Ich Relief which you can view in the link Here

Does this stuff even do anything? I did a second treatment today as it calls for a treatment every other day. I'm going to go buy a bigger heater that has a temp control on it today and a bigger bag of aquarium salt and try to heated salt treatment. Can you guys tell me if the fish listed below will he okay with the salt treatment and high heat please.

4 Angel fish
2 dinosaurs Bichir
2 peacock eels
1 tire track eel
1 corydora bottom feeder
2 bristlenose Algiers eaters one albino
1 long nose Gar
1 Archer Fish
1 bumblebee catfish
1 banjo catfish

One more question...do the scaleless types of fish which I guess would be the eels and the Bichir better at not catching ich? They seem to be doing perfectly fine and normal so far

I kill ice by adding salt and raising the temp to 88-90 degrees.

How much salt per gallon? Do you leave it like that till the next water change salt level wise?

I think I did either a 1/2 tbsp or 1 tbsp per gallon. So go with the 1/2. But definitely get the temp up. That is the main keep. I always kill it with out meds.

Ich usually takes few weeks to eradicate, just because you don't see spots on the fish doesn't mean its gone. There can be dormant cysts in the substrate, and if any of those dormant cysts hatch out, the disease starts again, and treatment need to continue.

So should I keep using the treatment I bought that I'm currently using and also do the salt heat treatment at the same time?

if you already started a medication, just finish it and follow through, no point wasting time or $$$ now. Just follow smitty03281964 smitty03281964 's advice and raise the temperature. IDK if 88-90 is too high, but definitely 86F. Keep doing that for 4 weeks - IRCC the 1st 2 weeks kills the ick, then the next 2 weeks gives the eggs time to hatch into larvae so they can be killed as well.

Remember, ick is invulnerable to treatments or medications while it is egg-form, treat for the full 4 weeks, maybe even 5.

I'm guessing the treatment tells you in the directions to do a weekly 25% (or 25% every 3 days) water change before adding another dose of medication?

And you ALWAYS take the charcoal/carbon elements out of your filter before medication, because the carbon removes the medication (not needed for salt treatment) and then you just waste time and $$$$. Keep the carbon/charcoal elements in a bucket, then after the treatment is finished, submerge them in BOILING water to sterilize them before inserting them back into the filter to prevent a relapse.

I took the charcoal out and it does not say to do water changes because it's a all natural herbal medication I'm guessing? It just says 1 cap full per ten gallons every other day for 3 treatments but I'm probably going to use it longer then that. I hope I did not buy some crap therapeutic stuff that don't even cure the problem lol

I used salt and high temps the key is gravel vacs and make sure you don't make the mistake of not keeping the heat high for a few weeks. I thought mine was over with but came back. It's all gone now. First time happened when I got new fish then I got it again when I used the same net to net a fish that had ick in a different tank.

I know I have raise my temp at at least 88 degrees. I know I never went over 90. 88 will work without a problem.
