I've just moved me teacup rays to their new home and one of them has stung the net. the only thing we could do was cut the net off and it now has a bit of net attached to the sting.

does anyone have any ideas? can they shed the sting for things like this or will it just stay on ?

:help2:

Don't panic, add a little salt to your tank to prevent fungus.
LEAVE THE NETTING ON THE BARB.
Do not try to remove anymore. The stingray will be fine. It will just be unsightly until the ray sheds its barb.
It will not hurt the ray. Just be patient.
Try using a large plastic tub with holes drilled into into it next time. You just coax the ray into the tub and gently lift till the water drains. Then move the ray quickly and voila! No stinger-in-the-net.

Hi firstly dont panic too much, these thing's happen. Where about's is it on the stinger? ray's shed their spikes 2-3 times a year, as long as it does not get fungused up you should be ok just leaving it. Other than that if you must take it off i would dip a towl in the water so it's soaking wet and catch the ray and sit him on it and wrap it over him sojust his tail end is sticking out and then use a stanley knife to cut the net away, i have used this method before. Best if there is someone to help you do this. Could you take a picture to show?

thanks for the advice, my husband has just gone to trim it down while the ray was buried, it swam off and the net came away. just hope the little guy is not too stressed.

p.s. anyone want to come and move our 2 motoro's for us????

salt the water and keep a eye on it....

i use kosher salt and would add about 6 pounds of it...
