Ok my Jack Dempsey has been acting weird for about a week coming up to the surface and acting kind of lethargic. We did about a 50% water change and added some salt but he just keeps getting worse. Now his stomach seems bloated and his colors are very dull, he looks almost black instead of brightly colored like he was before. Also he usually freaks out whenever someone walks to close too the tank but now he is just floating around listlessly and not getting spooked at all. His mouth is also staying flared open which is not normal for him either. So if you have any suggestions please give them to me because I don't know what to do for him.

I would do a water test, change 20-30% of the water daily for next few days. get rid of the goldfish. whats the temp at? check your filters if you have disposible kind replace cartridge. if you turn up the temp throw an air rock in or something to increase oxygen. if he's eating feeders then it could be internal paristite and need to treat as such.

It's really not dirty, I just took that pic while we were feeding the other fish. No he doesn't eat the feeders, those are in there for the clown knife which is doing fine. Temp is the same as it has been for the last year in the tank. Will definately replace filters. The goldfish were gone before I was done taking pictures.

It could be the reason, is your jack dempsy eating the goldfish? if so he could have enternal parasites. Becuase the goldfish cary diseases. If he doesen't eat them then id prolly do a water change.

No the Jack Dempsey never bothers the goldfish at all. We put in two at a time for the Knife but he eats them as fast as we can put them in so we always see them disappear. I am going to go ahead and change water again and change the filter. Any other suggestions?

even if he doesnt eat the goldfish they could transfer parisites. if you insist on feeders for any fish i would recommend quarentine them for a week and medicate to kill any parisites then feed them to your fish. convicts are really easy to breed and breed often. i use them to produce feeders for me. plus that way i dont worry about disease or anything.

if he is bloating for some reason then it would be due to stress. how big is your tank. if you can put a divider in and keep him by himself for a bit, up the temp and continue water changes. also look for clear to white stringy poop that will indicate bloat. then treat for heximita. preferribly the kind you can add during feeding so it can be injested

oh man... he def has internal infection...

cloudy eye is due to bad water and fungus....

I would not house gold fish with Jack Dempsey.... And how often do you do a water change... u need to do it at least once a week.. 50% or in your fish's case.. probably a 75% change....

That fish has an internal infection...... you need to have him in a tank by himself...

2 at a time? i count 4 goldfish in the picture alone. They could still be transering parasites and i would not feed them to clown knife. Really is no pros for feeding goldfish, but lots of cons. I bet he has parasites hes not looking healthy forsure.
