I believe this all started because of a bad water change. After a water change a couple of days ago my jar's stomach started to get bloated. I waited a day to see if it would clear up by itself but it got worse so then I added aquarium salt and the bloating went away overnight. I waited another day and then started feeding it again. The next day I noticed that the stomach has started to bloat again. That was yesterday. Today, the bloating has gotten a little worse. I've fed the jar but I'm not sure that was the right thing to do. Any suggestions?

Add a little bit more salt, raise temp to 82-83, add melafix/pimafix.

Is his stomach's scales like a pineapple, in a way? If so, he has dropsy.

I wouldn't start treating the whole tank if you're not sure what you're dealing with. I know melafix and pimafix are natural addatives...I just don't like dumping stuff in my tanks if it's not needed.

Dropsy is a symptom...it's not a disease, so the fish would have something else (like gram-negative bacteria infection) with swelling as a symptom.

I feed it hikari carnivore sticks. I feed it once a day at night about 20-30 min before turning the lights out.

Is it bad if I turn the lights out too soon after feeding?

Also, this morning, it appears to be slightly better than the night before but still very noticeably bloated.

maybe try not to feed at night, coz thats the time fish take a napy time just like us, and we dont wana sleep with our stomachs full right? feed it during the morning.. best is to post us some pix.. or video

argh!!!! can you imagine a jardi (with its big scales) that has dropsy?!? yuck!!!! i'm glad its not dropsy or scale protursion...how big is he? hope he's doing better now.
