Hey,

Just wondering if i could get some advice with a little dilemma I have at home. Please forgive the units of measurements as I am from Australia. I currently have an 10cm Endlicheri Bichir housed in a fry tank (approx 25cm x 15cm x 15cm) within a 3ft x 14 x 18 tank (120L). I will be getting a juvenile Spotted Gar (10cm) today and I am able to separate the fry tank in half so that the spotted gar can live alongside the Bichir with a divider between them. I am however, considering using a spare tank which measures at 18inch x 12in x 12in (approx 30L) which I could set up with a small divider and have the two live along side each other. I am unsure if I should do this as you all know that the general rule is that the smaller the tank, the bigger the problems (in terms of ammonia, ph blah blah blah), however it is slightly larger than their little fry tanks. But, if i leave them in the fry tanks, although the home is only temporary, I fear that it might be too small for them to grow efficiently.

My reasoning for not releasing them into this 120L tank is because there are some nasty cichlids in there that would basically tear apart these juvenile fish. I want to grow these fish up with no stress, so I will probably get rid of these cichlids later down the track and let the Endlicheri and Spotted Gar into the 120L. These fish will later be transferred into a 150gallon (5x2x2.5) when reaching a suitable size.

What should I do? Should I leave them in the fry tank for a while? Or should I setup the 18in tank and let them roam free in that for a while?

Regards

Dan.
