Hey all,

One of the three juvie pbass in my grow-out tank has been swimming erratically and occasionally lying on the bottom. While swimming, his tail motions are exaggerated, and when he plunks down on the bottom of the tank, he turns on his black stress colors. :( None of the other two pbass or any of the other fish seem affected. I have had all these fish for 4 months now, no new stock, no unusual changes to the tank or diet (they get a rotation of Massivore, krill, tilapia, and TetraCichlid Jumbo Sticks. Compared to the other two pbass, his belly seems slightly distended, his pectoral fin armpits seem a bit flushed, and he twitches his pelvic fins a fair bit.

Any thoughts on what might be ailing him? Could he just be, I dunno, constipated? I did a partial water change just in case.

Water parameters:
Temp: 80*F
pH: 7.2
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 30-40

Idk, but what I do know is, ur temp should be atleast 84. How big r they?

They're all at about 7 inches. There's a trio. There is some aggression, but the one being sick is usually the dominant one. The others keep swimming over to look at him, but they haven't taken any potshots at him. I'll go ahead and increase the temperature, I had it a bit lower for the lady jag and the bichirs.

If ur nitrates are now 40 after a wc then they were prlly 50-70ppm before, so the nitrates could have affected him more then the others, especially since now hes fine.

Keep the nitrates down with weekly 50% wc and they will also grow faster and healthier!!!
