A few weeks back, I acquired a pale lapradei from a friend of mine, as some of you may know. A week or so later, it settled down and "revealed its true colors" to a high-contrast lapradei! A few days later, my father gave the tank a full wash and got my bichirs jumping up and down. Later when my bichirs settled down, my lapradei turned back to it's dark-based color, but it lost its high-contrast and the space between bars turned much darker than it was previously. What can I do to turn back into it's original high-contrast state?

Just give it time.
Some bichirs do not react well to any kind of stress. As long as it's eating and behaving normally, I think you'll be fine.
