this started to happen a week ago. head grew to this size. ray is 5.5 inches. everything is fine in the tank. temp 82, a bit of salt in the water, ph 7.5. still eating prawn. have never seen this before in all of rays that ive kept or seen anything like this on the net. anyone can give any input, would be appreciate.

been advised by a member here that sometimes this happens to baby rays when they are well fed?

i had a bd leo male with her but took him out so she can recover.

I have a small hystrix (about 4.5") with a similar hump. My larger hystrix don't have it. She has had it for the year that I've kept her. I would agree it may have something to do with young rays being well fed.

ive seen this in newborns. it goes away slowly after birth.

hopefully in your case it goes away. GL!

shes eating at the very least so that part im not worried. i guess ill stop the treatment if there is nothing wrong with her. ill keep you guys updated in due time. shes in half a 80 gal right now. hope she starts putting on some size and gets rid of that forehead lol. does it normally happen to black rays? never really seen something like this on any rays posted here lol. or any info on the web for that fact.

I have a captive bred Marble I named "Lump" cause of this. His "nose" is much larger though. My ray is beyond well fed, it is obese. Doesn't over eat, just never moves.

I wouldn't be concerned with it being "sick". It's much better then having a divet in the forehead ;)

if a ray is severely undernourished they get a dent between the eyes where that lump is as well as showing other signs like hip bones showing etc . the thinner the ray gets the worse the "dent" gets between the eyes .

i would assume this is a reverse of this and if the ray is well fed it is just showing .

it looks well fed from the above pics . nice rays :)

my male motoro has a similar but not so obvious lump and has had it for ages . its not a problem imo .

your ray being so small i think it will become less obvious as it grows

good luck :)
