ok my grandfather brought home some bass 2 days ago
they are about 12 inches long they are LMB i think
there are 3
i put them in my 55 gallon(which was "supposed" 2 be a goldfish tank) for the time being
what size tank should i put them in
i've never kept bass or any native fish before
what should i fed them
these fish are troupers though they survive the 45 minute trip here on a stringer in the back of the pick up with no water i'm very surprised they are still alive :WHOA:

YOU HAVE THREE 12" LMB IN A 55 GALLON?? :(

Im not even going to try to comment on the other parts of the post, but Ill let you know what you will need to keep a LMB..

LMB get BIG. You will have to have a tank AT LEAST 24 inches wide. Something like with a 96" by 24" Footprint or bigger. Im not really sure that even that tank is going to hold it for life, but its going to be better than what you have going on right now...

What are you filtering that 55 with? I cant imagine the kind of filtration you would have to have on a 55 gallon to even keep these 3 fish alive in a 55 gallon, much less good living conditions..

As for food, feeders at first. Ive had mine for a few months now and he will accept feeders, krill, market shrimp, and nightcrawlers..

My advice to you is this: Unless you plan on dropping some big money to keep these guys in a proper home then you need to find a way to get rid of them. Eat them if you want. Its going to be better than three of them in a 55 gallon. These guys really need a 1000 gallon or so filtered pond, which is something else you might think about, but please get them out of the 55 gallon...

ok I'll probly let my grandfather eat 2 of them.
i have 2 100 gallon filters running on the tank
they came out of a shallow stagnat looking pond
I think it's a improvement
I was thinking about setting up a above ground pool to put the bass in along with some catfish and some breme.

Hey man
I, too, will keep some comments to myself as to the situation, and their housing.
I would suggest that you eat them all this time around. Sit down to a nice fish bake, with a good fish book, and research what you need to keep them, and THEN give it a try.

yeah i dont know if you thought you were resuing them or what but a 55 is OUT of the question! 125+! really, just eat them unless you have a load of cash tucked away to buy a new tank.

First off, this 55 gallon thing isnt even an option, even for just one fish. I dont know how easy it is to get used tanks around your area, but if you could get a 75 gallon for just ONE fish used, go ahead and get it. This should buy you some time until you have to upgrade. But when Im saying buy you some time, Im talking months not years. You might be able to find a larger tank used in the paper or something by then. But your going to need a 24" wide tank. At VERY minimum 180. (6ftX2ft) These fish get bigger than 24 inches and can get to be expensive to feed.

Just make sure you understand what you are getting yourself in for. They are awesome fish, but there is a lot of caring for them and lots of money involved as well.. If you have any questions, I dont care a bit to help you but PLEASE get them out of that 55 gallon...

also ur tank is at risk, if u surpise or scare it, it might go right through the side of the tank, and u will not have a 55 or a bass.....i witnessed this first hand

I say give it a shot! I love my fish but when they die i get a new one. The first time guppies and gold fish were kept were they kept in 5000 gallon ponds nope didn't think so. Some times you guys kill me with what you say? Some of your fish come from the amazon but you or someone eles has decided somewhere along the way that some tank what ever the size is good enough for them but come on we cant reproduce the amazon river can we?
We do the best we can to keep our fish what we precive as happy. So i say give it a shot just filtrate filtrate as much as you can. You can never over filtrate only over stimulate, keep the current down as to not stress your fish but clean it as much as you can and do lots of water changes. Good luck

Thanks i'm glad i have some support
but i am starting construction on a 6 foot by 6 foot pond that will be around 6 foot deep
any ideas if i could keep all 3 in the pond or will it be too small?
as for eating them i detest the tought i won't even feed live mice to my moms snake i hate meat, fish, dairy, and all animal products
i'm a vegan
so i will probly just let all but the smallest one(which i found out is only 7 inches) go and get him a 150 gallon for the time being.
