Hi guys, 2 of my 17"~18"+ mama motoros refuses to eat until now ever since 4 days ago after I did a 15% wc (water conditioner used, double dose some more). The rest of my motoros (the other 5pcs) still eating like pigs, except these 2 pcs. One of them rip last nite (heart broken)... :(:(

I suspect that they r suffered from chlorine burned (disc edge turns whitish pale after wc), and stress from it during that wc. Now the mama that left just refuses to take any food, goldfish feeder, mp, pellets all rejected...

Method I had used during the past 4 days. Pour almost 2/3 bottle of black water essence during these 4 days, add Tension Gone water conditioner that alleges remove chlorine & chloride, reduce stress & nitrate etc 2 full cups per day...

Water is in good condition, coz water has been crystal clear than b4 & the rest of my fishes and rays are eating more and active...

So, can anyone help me on this one, really stress & frustrated after one mama motoro gone last nite...

Black water essance is a water softener i assume? It might of rapidly change your Ph and general hardness. Keep offering food to the remaining female and don't give up. I recently had a female refuse food for several days i thought for sure she was a goner, but now she is on her way to a full recovery i hope. I have been told to keep it simple with rays. they like clean water and lots of food. good luck

Thx bro. Yes, i have added more feeder goldfishes for her to easy hunt for the food and feed more frequently but small amount of mp, sw, pellets etc. Also have added an extra pump with air to circulate the water with extra oxygen. Hopefully this pc will getting better...:(

Hm lets do some math..

2 rays, at 17-18"..
5 more rays in the tank.. with tankmates.
15% water change..

What size tank?
Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate readings?
pH readings? tankmates?

Your water can be crystal clear and you can still have serious issues..

Adding blackwater extract can shift pH and cause more stresses.. it is better to not mess with water and do many large water changes.

If you used a dechlor, why are you concerned about chlorine burn?

Did you clean your bio-filter during your water change?

I would be more worried about Ammonia burn from killing off some of the bio-filter during maintenance.

7 Rays is alot of Bio-load for any size domestic tank, especially if they are all over 12"+..

Feeding feeder goldfish.. lots of waste.

I say ammonia spike.

Hi there, definitely not ammonia spike, I had checked my water parameter, all within acceptable range.

It is a backyard pond consists of 3 pcs 6x4x3 fgts connecting together. U can have a look of my pond at here: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=92677

I had not cleaned my sump or touched any filter material for ages, in fact just newly added another new canister this month to enhance on my filter system.

All other fishes & rays are getting more active and diets increase, so definitely no problem with my water now... I can 100% sure that my 2 pcs motoros are suffered from chlorine burn becoz of that wc. Now just seeking for method to mitigate the stress and make her to eat again...

She has showed improvement on the disc, hopefully she will eat again asap like b4...

Oh yeah I remember your set up now..

It's obvious you know what you're doing..

Sounds like a fungal infection if it's around the disc.. you still think it was chlorine?

Perhaps the lack of maintenance in the sump has increased your Dissolved Organic Compounds, and although you have plant matter and algae to reduce nitrates, you could have other hidden unforseen problems..

It's tough to say.. do they have any tankmates that could stress them?

Just a pair of discus with them. My 5 other pcs rays all are eating like pigs now, appetites have never been that good b4 compare to the time b4 I added in the black water essence & tension gon.

I can 100% sure is chlorine burn now, coz i use 24 hrs water dripping overflow for my pond. It might be the dripping rate too fast and accumulate too much chlorine through time, and thus once I did the 15% wc, then suffered chlorine burned even water conditioner had been used.

PH at 6.4, ammonia and nitrite are o, nitrate around 60 to 100ppm...

Really regret for doing that wc, i dun even need to do that at all. I had not been wc for 3 months at least by using the overflow dripping system.

Just out of the blue thinking doing that and coz this dilemma...:(
