I was wondering if anyone here knows the max size of a Short body Paroon shark? I have been offered a pair of 6 inch sb paroon sharks and wanted to know if a 6ft x 45inch wide x 36 inch tall tank would be able to house them for life? Thanks and Happy New Year!!

I don't about the short bodied, but I've seen them for sale in Asian food markets at about 4-5ft long.
Their fillets are often sold under the name swai in restaurants.
Although it would take a while to grow to this size, this should be an indication as to whether a 6 ft tank is good for life.
I've also seen 4ft ones in a LFS in a 500 gal aquarium.

The short bodied variant will probably still reach almost the size of an ID shark, which need way bigger than a 6' tank, so I wouldn't do it if I were you.

saw on another site someone had one hit 10" in a few months. even if its max size is half that of a normal paroon, you're still looking at a 4 foot fish. your tank wouldn't be big enough if it was 6 foot wide.

Thanks guys! I was told the sb paroon would hit 16-18 inches in 3 years. So I will most likely give it a go and see what happens after one year. I hope there are members here who would take it off my hands in case they do get too big. If I grow attached to them, I guess an upgrade to a mega tank or pond would have to be the solution.

^ Not to burst your bubble, but finding large fish new homes is near impossible, unless its a fish that is really sought after and high in demand...

Even on this site i'm guessing it would be hard to find those fish a new homes if they got big enough, since although this is MFK, there aren't many people with a system large enough to house these fish, and even if they could, would those people really want them?

Just get the big tank first. If you build it, they can come. Cheap alternatives to lfs bought tanks exist. You can build one yourself or pick up an aquaculture tank.
