Does the puffer's puffer lip grow back if it accidentally bit it. My Mbu Puffer that I just got lost a piece of her lip and I don't know if she bit her own lip or it was placed in the same tank with other mbu at the warehouse but it came to me with a piece of skin missing on the lip. My question is that will it grow back?

Start by making sure the water you're keeping it in is pristine. Did you have a cycled tank ready for it? Add Melafix to prevent infection. Use an airstone to keep O2 levels up.

Hey Pufferpunk,

I am the new owner of the puffer. Water conditions are pristine: 10ppm nitrate, 0 nitrite and ammonia, ph of 6.8-7.0. The lip doesn't look bad but it isn't growing back--the little guy has an elvis-like lip snarl. I did a preventative treatment of prazipro this week. I will add some melafix after the next water change.

On a separate note: my mbu loves to eat snails! He crunches them up and eats the shells. Just wondering....do ramshorn snails carry parasites? Should they be fed sparingly or be a staple? He also eats frozen bw and market shrimp. The previous owner was also feeding frozen clams and krill but I am not feeding those to him.

Thanks!

Why not? Clams, krill & lots of other shelled foods are great for him. The more variety, the better. It is always a good idea to QT all live foods.
