I am STILL setting up my 75 gallon tank, and have pretty much everything but the fish at this point :)

Originally i had hoped to create a rockscape in the tank using slate. I am going with blue frontosa's in the tank. I was just wondering if this is the best rock to use... if so, should i silicone the rock together? I was thinking of maybe using little pieces of slate as risers so that i can make larger caves, but i have no way to get them to stick permanently.

Any help is appreciated.

This is kinda what i am shooting for:

why dont u get large river rocks to hold up the slate. u can stack them and make little slate caves.

I personally like one type of stone (same composition/texture) in an aquarium. I'd use limestone boulders, or some really nice texas holey rock for your tank. Limestone is best as it will help buffer your water. You want to create depth by building up a side of the tank with rock and also utilizing the other side for more swimming space and less rock. You could also consider a diy aquarium 3 dimensional background using cement (research proper type) and styrofoam. Carve your rockwork into the foam, coat it with a few coats of cement, stain it to your liking, and silicone it to the back of the aquarium. (consider filter tubes, heaters, etc.) Be sure to test your ph, as it could skyrocket until the cement is fully cured. Then accent it with a few similiar loose rocks. Would look awesome with frontosa... just don't aim to keep too many in a 90 gal. I'd say 3 max, and that's pushing it.
