For my 170G. I've got the fish in my sig, though the cigar shark might be going. I'd like to add a smallish cat or school of cats, something to clean algae, and a school of tetras. Right now I'm thinking pictus cats but suggestions please, I'd like something SA since most of my tank is (besides the ABK and bichir), though a syno cat would work.

For the algae cleaner I'm considering a BN pleco or a flagtail, though the flagtails get pretty big and I'm thinking it would kind of dominate the view. If there's another pleco species that does a good job on algae I'd like to know.

For the tetras I'm going to need something deep bodied to avoid getting eaten by the knife & senegalus. I'm thinking bleeding hearts or blackskirts...the bichir is really small and doesn't seem to be growing all that much, so I'm tempted to try serpaes (I like them) and hope they don't get picked off.

I could see your gar taking out serpaes. Bleeding hearts might work.

I have a couple flagtails and I really like them. They do get good size and will dominate the view, but I don't see a problem with that. Flagtails are nice looking fish

Oops, forgot to take the gar out, he's gone...broken back & euthanized :(

I was thinking congos, or even rainbows (not a tetra, but a schooler).
