i have an empty 55 and i can't decide whether to get a grammodes or another rtm, what would you guys get, im open to other suggestions

grammodes if you are willing to wait major time for a monster. they are gorgeus and not as common as RTM's. but you'll wait years upon years for a 10"er. (even with the best of care).

RTM's are great fish, and are decent growers, the only problem i could see comeing up in the future is it growing out the 55. Males hit 12" and IMO, i wouldn't keep anthing over 8-10" in a 55. 4'x18" or 75 gal for anything in the 12" range.

I like The RTM myself!Too bad we are not closer I have a F1 female that will need a new home soon,as I have 2

I just got finished trying to get my male grammode to eat. What a damn pain! He is a nice looking fish, when you see him that is. He is in a 55 gallon alone. I've posted on him before in this forum. He is more outgoing than any other grammodes I've had. Although I ***** about him all the time, I still voted grammodes cause there is not another fish out there like them. I think part of the slow growing thing is that they don't gorge themselves like other fish I own. My male red tiger motag will eat a ton, but will stop when full. My dovii will stop when full. The istlanum, trimac, and odo will eat until they explode. Several days go by and I never see the grammode actually eat. Sometimes I'll see him take food off the top, and I see him scarf down a mealworm or earthworm from time-to-time. Usually food just rots and I end up sucking it out or he eats it when I'm not watching him. I'd love to get him eating pellets and maybe if I can discipline myself to starve him for weeks it would work.

Anyway, sorry for the derail but I had to vent. Get the grammode if you've never had one. It is worth the experience and maybe you will become strangely attached as I have. I've had a love-hate relationship with these fish for 3 years.

Wow, it took my grammodes only a week to start eating pellets. Mine doesn't gorge himself either. He will see food and just watch it then strike almost like it's a feeder fish. I wouldn't call him skittish more shy.

How big is your grammodes now Darth? is it really 3yrs old? Would love to see an updated pic.

No he is not three. I've just been keeping sets of grammodes for 3 years. I keep them, grow them out a while, get impatient with them and sell them, then get the itch and get them again. I bought this one a while back from Rapps. The one I have is 4 inches tops so he is the same size as yours.
